LEADERSHIP

is an artist, creative director and Co-Principal of McCalman.Co. His background in the editorial world is a foundation of his storytelling, and his fine art practice has reframed his perspective on the importance of design. A culture columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, McCalman’s first book Illustrated Black History: Honoring the Iconic and the Unseen won the 2023 NAACP Award for Outstanding Literary Work as well as profound accolades by The New Yorker’s Hilton Als, NPR, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Fast Company and many others.

George McCalman

is Co-Principal of McCalman.Co and Chief of Strategy and Business Development, ensuring the salon’s high-impact growth initiatives are aligned with the organization’s highest standards and objectives. With vast international experience as a strategic consultant taking individuals and world-class brands to their ultimate level of growth, Thompson has managed operations and supply chains, and art directed multi-million dollar marketing campaigns for the luxury market. A visionary leader, she heads up critical projects that enable brand expansion across all channels, and drives deals and partnerships that support new growth opportunities.

Jeff Gordinier

A lifelong journalist, Jeff Gordinier has written about music, movies, food, poetry, culture, and politics for publications including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Esquire, Details, Outside, Town & Country, Fast Company, Creative Nonfiction, and many others. He has written two books: 2008’s X Saves the World and 2019’s Hungry, a portrait of the Danish chef René Redzepi.

Moira Bartel

For over twenty years Moira Bartel has worked with communications clients across music, art, design, food, activism, publishing and independent media. Through narrative definition and refinement, Moira empowers individuals and brands to come into greater agency around their communications and public identity and to place well-considered, compelling press stories within the greater cultural framework.

Aliena Cameron

Heading up the Design and Social teams at McCalman.Co, Aliena brings over a decade of experience centered around book, magazine and exhibition design. Grounded in a background of art history, Aliena is inspired by pop culture and music to tell meaningful stories of culture and the human experience.

Ayana Miyoshi

Ayana Miyoshi is a San Francisco-based graphic and illustration designer from LA and Tokyo. Miyoshi designs and illustrates graphics for design firms, websites, and digital media and print publication companies. She is interested in the interdisciplinarity within her work and often engages multimedium, including collage, print and digital.
